Are there any good referees in the Premier League?

    Genuine question...

I don't really have much to choose between them. They are largely incompetent arseholes. Oliver is the worst for us but that seems to be a particular issue that he has.

I know I keep banging on about it but we have largely brought this on ourselves. OVer the last 2 or 3 years we have slowly made ourselves the most despised team in the country by a good distance. It is nonsensical to think that this doesn't impact on referees. They are human, even if they don't appear to be.

If you want to stamp your authority on a game, or raise your quote of yellows for delaying restarts/time wasting/ tactical fouls then we are the best target. Book or red card an Arsenal player and most of the country will laugh, most will defend it. Even an outrageous decision like this one has around 30% of people believing it was correct and that number is rising.

Watch how City interact with referees. Constant charm offensive. They get refs onside by being pally, and then turn on them to call in a favour when it is needed. I think that explains why they get the benefit of the marginal calls.

I do love the way ex players are still describing as 'ludicrous' the idea that a referee can have an issue with a particular club. Even after the Coote incident.
Your point about Europe is spot on.

We did actually recently go a whole season without a red card - or even a player being banned for accumulation of yellows. Coincidentally it was the first season we started challenging City.

People generally quite liked us that season. Since then they have started to despise us. Hate to say it, but I can see why.

It does at least mean that when the rest of the footballing world agree that a decision was wrong you know for a fact that it is a genuine stinker!
