    Arsenal No.7s who came through the yoof team and became world class.

    B, Rocky, Chippy.

    Anyone I'm missing?

    Anyone know who our No.7s were in the '30s and if they were born and bred Gooners?

    Joe Hulme for most if it but he came to us from Blackburn.

    Can't believe you left out George Armstrong.

    Possible banning offence - are there any moderators left?

    Sorry. In fairness, the first game I remember is the '78 Cup Final, just before my 7th birthday and Chippy was no.7 then.

    Was Geordie Armstrong as good as me dad said?

    Yes. 621 first team appearances. Although he made his debut at 17 I don't believe he came through the ranks, 'Geordie' being a clue! Might not have been born and bred a Gooner but he died as one while training the reserves.

    Fair play.

    How did NUFC miss him and Alan Shearer. It's not like London where there are a dozen clubs on the tube. Their city has just got one club. How did they lose him?

    Actually, they didn't miss him. He was registered with them as a youth player but was frozen out after missing a game.

    Yes, I looked it up

    Wow. Just googled him. Didn't realise that he also played for Middlesex. Middle-order bat and right-arm medium fast bowler. Or that he managed the scum and it was the team he built that won them the title a couple of years after he left.

    {And thinking of Middlesex-AFC connections, just googled Steve Gatting and we have the same birthday.}

    Talking of all that sort of thing, Eddie has just come on for Palace. Ten minutes or so to save the game.
    "Plenty of strikers can score goals," he said, gesturing to the famous old stands casting shadows around us.

    "But a lot have found it difficult wearing the number 9 shirt for The Arsenal."

    Oh - also could count Denis Compton of course. But for the knee injury and cricket commitments he probably would have been world class right winger (imo)

    Sheet, forgot DC played RW and would therefore have worn the No.7.

    Any chance Saka could bat in the middle order? {Though while DC averaged 50 overall and 60 in Eng, just 33 in Aus. So probably not much better than the current side. Joe Root only averages 35 there - so far.....}
