    Wow....
None of us can be sure of how instrumental he‘s been. For example, Jesus & Zinchenko, who were key to us climbing out of a rut, were almost certainly down to Arteta. Martinelli & Gabriel definitely Edu. We‘ve also, like most other clubs, had our share of beige signings, who, to date, have looked a bit average and were subsequently farmed out.
I’m on the fence with it. Only time will tell if Arteta‘s become an unhinged megalomaniac, or if Edu was a huge stabilising influence.
It‘s odd that he‘s reportedly off to a club like Forest, even if it’s for more money.

It's not just Forest, it's the portfolio of clubs he owns.....and it's as CEO, which he's never going to get at Arsenal.

likeable chap, done a decent job (I suppose) but we move on.

It's not like he's completely responsible for on-the-pitch performances. Which have actually been quite poor this season.

The point is that the relationship between his role, the CEO and the coach is absolutely essential in ensuring that our coaching aligns with our strategy. Just look at the clubs where that isn't the case, United being most obvious. They've consistently signed the wrong players for the coach they appointed.

I'm not saying Edu alone is capable of doing this job. But I am saying that if we get the replacement wrong, we are going to be ****ed. Look at the absolute mess before Edu- signings were all over the place and left Emery with a ludicrous squad and not a hope in hell of succeeding.

Arteta needs someone he gets along with and trusts, and he needs reigning in at times.

You could point to some of the terrible players we almost signed, like Mudryk . Or one that we did sign, Willian.

He was average but came into a terrible side and actually improved it for a while. Useful player, who we got rid of once we'd improved and outgrown him. Sold him for what we paid. Not a bad signing at all, given the situation. Same with Cedric. Same with Ramsdale to some extent- he did well for us but when we needed to upgrade, we did. Probably same with Tomiyasu....

Still not at all sure that letting Xhaka leave was a good decision but it was mostly about length of contract as I understand it.

MA wanted a left-footed LCH. The deal was loan with obligation to buy.

We then got Gabby in the summer. We didn't know then we'd get him nor that he'd become half of the best CH partnership since Big Tone's days.

Kiwior was cover during that title challenge and while he hasn't worked as an inverted LB, he's been fine as a normal one. Lot's of assists this season and during the period he was playing LB last year.

And now we have Cala for both positions. I thought we should have let Kiwior go, and would have happily taken the 20m we paid, thinking that meant just another 20-odd upgrading to Cala. But with injuries to Cala, and Timber and Benny Blanc {and Tommi and Zinny} it's lucky we kept him. Decent young player for that money.

Mari was 4m loan fee and then an extra 8m at the end of the season to make it permanent. Doubt he was on huge wages. And give the shîte we'd had like Luiz, Mustafi {cost as much as Gabby and Willy} and Sok, the Mari money was a pittance.

You say it is lucky we kept Kiwior, but on Saturday we went to Newcastle and put Partey at right back rather than move Timber there and give Kiwor a go at left back. If we are not going to use him we may as well bring in the money for him

Pretty clear to me that Arteta doesn't really trust him. We haven't really seen enough of him to know why that is.

Edu has done 5 years, I think. That's about right for an Executive role.

I don't disagree that we need to get it right with the next one.

Overmars has done this sort of thing, hasn't he? Mind you, the introduction of the Worker Protection Act and all that...
