Good point. Just had a gander. Stewart averaged 39.5 to YJB's 36.4, but with the gloves AS drops to 34.9 while YJB's rises to 37.6.*
A competent WK batting at 7 averaging 35-38's fine.
Just gutted YJB got that golfing injury when you remember the form he was in that summer. 6 tons at 66 that year, 4 at 75 that summer.
I wish it were possible to work out the maths of how many runs more spinner A needs to average with the bat than spinner B to make up for spinner A having, say, a bowling average of 5 more runs than spinner B.
Moeen got 5 hundreds {ave 28} and 5 5-fers {ave 37} in 68 games, and we all remember those glorious tons. But Swanny in 60 games got no tons {ave 22} but 17 5-fers {ave 30.}
You'd clearly want Swann, no? Even though their batting-bowling averages at -8 and -9 aren't that much different.
But the econ rate of just under 3 for GS vs just over 3.6 for Moeen means GS could hold an end up better. As I say, there must be some way of doing the maths like this footy xGOT nonsense {whatever that means.}
*Spookily, both average {as wk} 29 vs Aus and 27 in Aus. And roughly 31 and 32 respectively as career totals, though AS is about 0.8 below YJB on in and vs Aus as career totals.
