    Well done, Joe Root!

What a time to be alive! #England
"Plenty of strikers can score goals," he said, gesturing to the famous old stands casting shadows around us.

"But a lot have found it difficult wearing the number 9 shirt for The Arsenal."

He's a machine. If he'd been a sub-continent player, playing on these roads he'd be a lot closer to Sachin's run total.

    Excellent point.

Got his ton now. Gutted Zak didn't kick on but he still had a century partner ship with Root. As did Duckett. And we just need another 20 for a third century partnership, this one Root and Brook.

Only Smith to come afterwards. We do need Stokes.

With him, we have a decent top 7 - it's just that Pope still seems the be the weak link. Do we have any other options? Lawrence didn't work. Could we steal another Saffer like Trott, even though he only scores at half the Bazball rate.

Atkinson and Woakes both have test hundreds and on this track, they could get another!

Sachin's got 51 tons in 329 innings. But Jayawardene and Root both have 34 tons but in 252 and 267 innings respectively. Sanga has 38 in just 233 innings.

That kind of emphasises my point. I'm no statto but I would imagine 1st innings scores are considerably higher in sub-continent than anywhere else. By the way, I'm not saying all those other batsmen weren't superb but the 'cold Tuesday night in Stoke' adage does spring to mind.

The guy that doesn't get mentioned nearly enough is Jacques Kallis. His batting record alone is phenomenal but has nearly 300 test wickets to go with it.
