Just forced my dad to speak to a senior manager at his work (a very large

and well-known retail chain) about company policy and he was told that if he doesn't have any symptoms and doesn't come into work he won't get paid.

And they have no policy for if/when the government advice changes.

how would they know he was asymptomatic if he called in sick and self-isolated for 7 days?
they'd should have to pay him SSP from 'Day 1', at least.

They wouldn't, of course. But self-isolating for 7 days and then going back to work would totally defeat the point as he'd be going back when the risk had actually heightened.

This SSP of which you speak... it’s not very much, is it?

It’s at times like this I appreciate living in a socialist paradise. 80% salary from your employer for the first 14 days and then a doctors note sees it continue. If the kids are sick (or schools forced to shut) you get 120 days per year that you can take off and get 80% of your salary. Socialism
