There was that boring slave nonsense and the space crap last year, Daniel Day-Lewis being dull the year before that (and don't get me started on Les Miserables) and a f**king silent film the year before that! This year, you've got Spaz Chariots of Fire or whatever it's called with thon ginger fella, some worthy bore-fest about Martin Luther King that doesn't have any of his speeches in it and something about a bint with early-onset Alzheimer's. Plus, of course, Birdman (which looks unbelievably pretentious and dull) and a film about that synonym for dullness, jazz drumming, ffs!
Essentially, if a film is likely to win awards these days, it generally seems to mean I have little or no interest in seeing it.
