Amazing work by the Met Office. Just goes to show the huge leap in technology in the last

10 years. Whether or not the storm was quite as ferocious as suggested, the fact is that it existed and they were forecasting its arrival 5 days ago. That's some seriously clever computer modelling of an incredibly complicated process.

When does this super duper mental storm start?

  3. #3

The one they predicted, that happened last night, you mean?

You know, the 60-80 mph winds. As predicted. With the occasional 90 mph gust. As they predicted? That storm, do you mean?

I've now looked out of the window and can see a broken branch so yes it has happened, wd the Met.

    Office.

No trains running either which is nice

umm it wasnt as predicited 60-80 mph winds. As predicted. With the occasional 90 mph gust

it was steady around 30 to 47 mph - which is just in force 6 to 7..just around atrong breeze to minor gale.. - with occasional gusts in 60 - 80- gale / storm force ( with max in certain areas 90odd) but big difference between steady 60 to 80 mph and gusts 60 to 80..it was a minor storm Sir C and the computers got over excited.

Great innit! If the weather modelling technology keeps improving like this we might even end up with

    accurate climate models one day!

That will never see the light of day. Too much money at stake.

The 'Green' (Red) conspiracy is too strong, a.

Typical slapdash civil servants costing the country millions with their mistakes

Surely a company like Group 4 could do this for cheaper (the fact I'm on the board of G4 and they couldnt do it cheaper is neither here or there)

It came from the Air Minisry and still has an MoD culture, really.

Plus it's tasked with achieving a profit so has to behave as a commercial enterprise.

    wd mo.

Hmmmmm, it's a bunch of superannuated boffins, c

They are a drain on our stretched resources, we need to farm them out at a huge, but crucially off balance sheet, cost.

    Did thatcher die for nothing?
