I'm confused about the first pelanty decision. Normally, if a referee plays advantage,

and that advantage is then wasted, then the referee does not pull the play back as he did to give today's pelanty.

You pull the play back after it becomes apparent that there is no advantage. But today there WAS an advantage, and Villa wasted it by shooting into the side netting.

Is that not a fundamental misapplication of the rules?

None of them were pelanties imo.

That's only one major f up the ref made. Much discussed on 5 live.

I'm not sure he was that bad. It's tempting to blame him for today, but I'm more inclined to be

disappointed with the players for their lack of discipline. Kosceilny in particular.

The second pelanty may have been dubious, but other than that he seemed to get all the small decision spot on. My only gripe is that he didn't pull Villa up for persistent fouling, but then we weren't angels ourseleves.

Re: I'm confused about the first pelanty decision. Normally, if a referee plays advantage,

Swedish TV checked the rule book and apparently it's within the ref's discretion to give adv and then if it doesn't result in a goal, a penalty. Taylor's peformance was one of the very worst ever - pity Kos can't come back in on appeal as it was a 2nd yellow And who exactly are fit ?

So is that why it wasnta red card? Because they still had an opportunity?

I missed the first penalty, havent seen it

Fair enough. I kind of suspected that must be the case, otherwise it would mean the ref literally

    doesn't know the rules.

I'm not sure why it wasn't a red card. Perhaps because there is a possibility Agbonlawhore

would not have reached the ball once he pushed it round Szeicesny...?

Maybe. Or if he did play advantage, had villa scored there would be no penslty.

Playing advantage presumbly means there was still a goalscoring opportunity and, if thee was, he cant send him off.

Or if he pushed the ball too wide or too far the opportunity could have been lost without the foul.

The advantage part sort of makes sense.

The commenstators on my stream felt he was stitching us up from the word go.

    They saod it all game.

I think our total lack pf shape and discipline in midfield cost us the game. Back four were exposed constantly through the centre. Per and kos were pulled all over the place. It was worse when sagan moved across as he struggled with his positions for a while.
