Very sad news.

Took out his off stump in the nets at Farnham.

I know he'd been having major mental health struggles......probably not caused by me bowling him in the nets.

Very sad - one of the best. Played through a difficult time and then was a major part in the rejuvenation. under Fletcher

Brilliant player and a superb player of spin at a time when hardly any other Englishman was. I remember his century in Sri Lanka without a single boundary, and him hitting the winning runs when we won in Pakistan as the Fletcher recovery began.

I always wished he'd made it in to the Ashes side in 2005 just so we would have had one guy from that desperate period of the 90s involved in an Ashes win.

Absolutely - it was the right call in the end but a shame for him*. I don't think it was a coincidence that he was an England coach for a long time when we produced some good players of spin

* should have dropped Bell

Tbf, he was 19 and I was 15. His brothers all played for Farnham

I was not surprised to hear the cause of death this morning. I had assumed that would be the case.
