AWIMB user focus group
Right then AWIMB, we'd like your input into the qualities that make a good forum. Obviously we're only doing this to laugh in your face later when we dash your hopes and expectations, this isn't a democracy you know.
The current software is getting a bit rickety, to say the least. Patching it up can be quite a lot of work for Octogenarian+ So we'd like to know which features, you, the community of AWIMB think make a good forum.
Building a good forum/comments section isn't easy. Just look at the Guardian comments section. Berni may be able to explain how it works.
It probably hasn't escaped your notice, but the predominant style out there in the rest of the big wide world is now flatview. In flatview people don't bother with message titles, they just stick their message on the end of the thread. If they're replying to someone they quote some of the text.
The advantage to flatview is that it's far easier to get it to play nicely with a mobile phone. It's also far more widely supported if we decided to junk the current platform.
The disadvantage's are that it can be hard to follow who's replying to who, one-liners in the title become a thing of the past and you have to open the whole thread to view.
In general, flatview supports slightly more in depth conversations, while treeview with just text in the title works for snappy conversations.
So what are your priorities for a forum?
EDIT: Old Skool poll answers allowed, though don't say "ability to log in in Chrome" - that will be fixed.

*******NEW SMILEYS WITH WELBZ*******
Also the ability to log in on Chrome.
-
Don't make us Flatviewers, man

-
Personally I'd like the ability to embed youtube videos
Nobody gets my references so I would envisage using this function on pretty much every post
-
Racially diverse smilies?
-
I would like less arguments, more love.
The rest I don't give two f**ks about. I have never known what flatviewing is before now.
-
Have a word with your mum then.
-
I can't believe you just called his mum a flatviewer.
Couldn't you have kept yourself to a civil reply featuring her sexual appetite?
-
Everything's fine, I'd say. Spruce things up a bit though, if you must.
-
I would were she still alive.
Tragic circumstances though her help with relation to internet based queries was always welcome.
-
'Fewer' arguments, for all love!
How often must we do this?
-
This forum has always been about plain-speaking, Doc.
-
I think less works just fine here thank you.
-
One cannot have everything, I suppose.
-
But... it's grammatically incorrect

-
I live on the edge.
-
Agree with your point. Discussions rather than arguments and some manners.
-
HTML on so I can make the PPPL table look better
-
...of the Dublin commuter belt
-
And tweets, and vine.
-
an avatar, treeview and embedded YouTube videos.
-
Embedded redtube videos
-
We have enough fannies using up bandwith imo
-
Working avatars. Please. And the ability to embed youtube, vines etc.
And bostonbrian to fűck off for good.
-
Auto refresh
-
Embedded videos play directly from youtube servers.
-
Not vines. Auto-playing videos are an abomination to decent UI values.
-
Fortunately, they almost certainly won't work.
-
They're fine if you have a short attention span imo.
-
Why must you hurt me 71?

-
An awimb that allows gstb to post a link without completely f**king it up
That may be too much to ask?
-
Shut it Boy George. I might have been referring to another bostonbrian.
-
Gpwm. And one that lets Jorge post a picture properly.
-
I dont want to be a shit c**t anymore

-
-
Only 1 logon per IP address
-
Still using my bandwith to deliver the crap posted by the fannies

-
I think there is more chance of gstb successfully posting a link
-
That would wipe out half the posters at a stroke.
Harsh on Nag 'n Mez, too.
