Lets assume we do sign cazorla and sahin. With the two strikers already purchased
Doesnt ii make van persie look like a lying c**t? I mean, what else was he expecting this summer? Messi?
-
Unless these signings are an attempt to get him to stay?
-
Does it matter? Wenger lies to the media all the time. Why should we expect RvP not to?
-
What did he lie about exactly?
He said he wasn't happy with the way the club was going, unless he secretly is happy he hasn't lied
-
No, it odesnt matter, not really. I suppose the bigger point wpuld be that it
Would constitute our most significant summer spend for many years. Iwonder whatthat tells us.
Obviously itmay well nothappen.
-
Maybe defensive reinforcements?
After all we did ship 49 goals last season.
-
How about the alternative aspect
Robin sniffs a realistic possibilty of 200k a week ?
-
Nothing. But it wouldlook like his comments about our lack of ambition
Were rather wide of the mark. Some wpuld suspect that hehad no intention of signing a new deal and was using this as an excuse.
So not exactly lying, assuch. But dishonest in a way
-
Been wanking at the spacebar again?
-
we all know it's money based, this bollocks about "direction of the club"
-
Nett spend of zero
Bendtner, Arshavin, Vela, van Persie.
-
Oooh look Robin, we've signed this bloke and that bloke and a few more may arrive..Please reconsider
-
All RvP said is that he and the board disagree on the way the club should move forward....
that was a rather ambiguous statement. Everything else is speculation and guesswork. Something Awimb and Twitter are very good at.
-
Isn't that what wenger haters moan about all the time. No ambition...
-
I dont think you can just assume that. I think it is fair to say that he does actually
Want to win stuff and is running out of time.
I just think it was unfair to criticise the club for effectively having no ambition IF they told him they were planning these signings. Hemay still think it isnt enough to win a title, and i am sure it wont be, but itis a step in therightdirection.
-
Indeed. His last shot at a humongous pay cheque
-
He never used the word ambition.
I suspect he had no intention of signing a new contract since he declined the opporunity last summer to discuss one.
-
That is still a significant spend for us in recent years.
-
Arsenal are signing the best players they can, what does he expect Messi ?
-
We have one of the very best strikers in the world - wouldn't it be nice if the club pulled out the
-
I know he didnt. I am paraphrasing somewhat. Maybe he meant something completely diferent
By thedirection of the club. It isnt how i took it though.
-
Exactly, so no need to make that statement.
Leave it all behind closed doors
-
Exactly.
-
TBF the old boy seems to have been far more pro active this time around
following last years transfer fiasco.
-
It could have been anything, playing positions, formation, tactics, playing style, signings, money
who knows? We can only guess.
One thing his statement did say (just because he made it), he wants out asap.
-
Money and trophies. He has no business making demands in the other areas.
They sre the manager's decisions.
-
The statement came a day after Wenger said he was extremely confident
van Persie would be playing in the Premier League for Arsenal this season.
The statement was to put pressure on the club to sell him. He's obviously asked to leave and been told otherwise. So he had to make the statement public to force a move.
-
As the Club Captain he should have STFU and not gone public
-
I just took it as an attempt to force a move.
It was a very aggressive and unnecessary statement I thought, an attempt to smash any hope of reconciliation.
Perhaps he expected more urgency from the club, the current impasse is f**kign useless to him.
-
Of course he can talk about them.....
he might be saying that we defend like a bunch of numb nuts, how are you going to solve this? Unlikely but it is possible.
-
-
No, definitely!
worst thing he could have done
-
Talking about them is fine. Making demands as to how we play isnt
Even if you are the captain.
-
He could use that weakness in Wenger to gain the morale high ground.
"Ok well if you are not going to sort out the defending, we will be unlikely to win trophies, so I will not sign."
What more likely transpired was...
RvP - "I'm not signing a new contract, please let me leave now"
Arsenal - "We'll hold you to the final year"
RvP - "That is up to you"
Next day
Wenger - "I am confident RvP will stay"
Day after
RvP - "I have decided not to sign (there you go Wenger, deal with that)"
-
Ok, but he didnt just say hehad decided not to sign
That would have been ok and would hve forced the issue. He really stuck the knife in, which was not necessary.
I believe there is more to it. I could of course be very wrong indeed.
-
But what did he mean if it wasn't that he disagreed with the self-sustaining model?
-
You could be right. To come out with that statement suggests there is more to it than just a
disagreement on direction.
It really is a get me outta here kind of statement.
-
We don't know. It is an ambiguous statement, which can mean anything.....
-
But it has to be that, right?
-
Again, we can only guess. There is no way of knowing, for sure.
The only thing we do know is that he wants out and quickly.
