Talking about them is fine. Making demands as to how we play isnt
Even if you are the captain.
He could use that weakness in Wenger to gain the morale high ground.
"Ok well if you are not going to sort out the defending, we will be unlikely to win trophies, so I will not sign."
What more likely transpired was...
RvP - "I'm not signing a new contract, please let me leave now"
Arsenal - "We'll hold you to the final year"
RvP - "That is up to you"
Next day
Wenger - "I am confident RvP will stay"
Day after
RvP - "I have decided not to sign (there you go Wenger, deal with that)"
Ok, but he didnt just say hehad decided not to sign
That would have been ok and would hve forced the issue. He really stuck the knife in, which was not necessary.
I believe there is more to it. I could of course be very wrong indeed.
But what did he mean if it wasn't that he disagreed with the self-sustaining model?
You could be right. To come out with that statement suggests there is more to it than just a
disagreement on direction.
It really is a get me outta here kind of statement.
We don't know. It is an ambiguous statement, which can mean anything.....
But it has to be that, right?
Again, we can only guess. There is no way of knowing, for sure.
The only thing we do know is that he wants out and quickly.
