The Labour party, opening its election campaign by declaring that they will increase taxes on 'the rish'. When presse, they defined these 'rich' as those earning £70k+.
You are quite right. A decent safari holiday, for example, is going to cost you a minimum of £25k. A rich man who can't afford the holiday he would like is not, by definition, rich.

Average salary in the U.K. is something like 25k so using that as a basis 70k is probably not totally illogical being almost 3 times the average
As your earnings increase so do your outgoings, bigger house, nicer car, nicer holidays. You need to get over 500k to really feel flush, anything over that just goes into the pot for the supercar collection
