I hate it when they do that. 20 hrs from Delhi to Jharkhand, arriving in the morning then finding all the beer shops are shut cos it's Republic Day or something. {I found some moonshine that evening.}

Try a tourists restaurant and ask for a takeout beer or two under the counter. Wrapped in local paper, pay cash.
