Actually I wonder if as a species we are losing our focus a bit.
Think of the jumps forward made in the 20th Century.
Flight, splitting the atom, landing on the f**king moon. Genuinely great things for us as a species.
The last 20 years we just seem to be making shiny things we can take pictures of each other with. And pictures of ourselves. Lots and lots of them.
Oh and if anyone tries to claim the internet as a Great Leap Forward from the last 20 years.......just don't alright. :bow:

Maybe the banal narcissism is more of a social and political malaise
than a technological one. Identity politics, lack of interest in economic growth, collapse of support for the main political parties, etc.
