Both those challenges you mention were inches from being a penalty or a goal. His margin for error was virtually nothing. And his movement to be in a position to make them was awesome.
He also irritates the **** out of opponents which is very handy with Ben white missing.
Yup. Saliba was quietly great last night. He didn't score a goal, or make those goal-saving challenges Big Gabby did but no-one got passed him.
But as LA said, Gabby is our best number 6 since Big Tone himself. And our CH pairing is the best since GG and the early AW years.
With everyone fit, BW could cover for Big Willy with JT at RB. Cala can cover for Gabby with JT or MLS at LB. And a fit Tomi could play anywhere across the back 4 as needed. Kiwior looked fine at LB as long as he wasn't inverting.
I would love to see how this team plays if, Ganpati willing, next year we don't have any injuries. With Zubi to replace Partey and Jorgy for ?51m, we could then just go all in on a striker. One who could also drop deep and interchange with Kai playing inside left when we need to go more attacking. When Kai played there at the start of last season, even when he wasn't scoring, he was winning loads of duels and gives us a back to goal, hoof it up to the big lad option.
Btw, could MLS play inside left if we had Cala or JT at LB? He's a natural MF, is learning to defend really well for an 18 year old playing in a new position, and he plays some gorgeous passes down the left wing or inside left channel. It was his pass that led to the corner for the equaliser last night.
Ethan as cover for ?din and B. MLS as cover for LB and inside left. Both 18 and cost nothing.
