Definitely up there.
More importantly - can we win the Ashes with this line up of bowlers:
Atkinson
Wood
Carse
Stokes (if fit to bowl)
Bashir
Watched a lot of the Aussie India series and they are creaking at both ends. Wouldn't trust Starc or Hazelwood to play five tests. Lyon will be another year older. Webster might be their all-rounder but looks more like a Collingwood than a Stokes. With the exception of Head all their batters look vulnerable
Are we just completely writing off Archer? I had assumed that you'd rotate Wood/Archer. But yes; that attack does seem to fit Australian conditions. I would think that Tongue, Overton and Potts will also travel. Also wouldn't be surprised if England gave a run out to John Turner and/or Saqib Mahmood against Zimbabwe in May.
Need to give them something to bowl at, though. We could therefore do with Pope and Crawley finding some form. Though the emergence of Bethell does make this slightly less of an issue.
As a Catholic I am reluctant to say this but Pope can **** off. Bethel is a talent - and also a bowling option. Archer will be in the squad - assess his fitness and let him loose. Tongue and Turner are exciting options and who doesn't want Tongue having a go at head?
India series is interesting - Sharma is a busted flush and Kohli is a weak link as well. Jaiswal is utterly brilliant and Pant exciting but erratic. Bowling is Buhmrah (and Shami) but fitness is an issue. Think we could do well.
