Think it depends on the type of car and where you want it. Hatch/saloon roof etc..Had one on an A4 while living abroad. Carried 4 bikes.. Between a bullseye and a century should be more than enough to do the job..

Your best bet is to get a towbar mounted one. This may, of course, require you to fit a towbar to the car.
