that it's turned the usual dynamics of conspiracy theory on their head. It's now the case that the fringe, contrarian point of view is that he wasn't murdered, while everyone else assumes dark forces were at work.

To be honest, it's the lack of subtlety that almost makes me think he did bump himself off. After all, you'd have hoped that these dark forces would be a bit less brazen, wouldn't you?

Well it isn't usual to release pictures of dead people as far as I know.

It may well have been a Tom Hagen/Frankie Five Angels-type conversation was had and he was persuaded that the best thing all round might be if he did the decent thing. The whole 'CCTV malfunction' bit is rather clumsy and transparent, though.
