View Full Version : I do not suppose this Man City CL ban would actually result in our getting a spot?

Would it? Because I am not at all confident that we beat Chelsea.

They won't be banned until 20/21 if at all because of appeals etc

I'm sure Mansour bin Zayed bin Sultan bin Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan can afford some decent lawyers...

 He has no heart at all. No, no, no heart at all.*

*I've been making this joke for almost ten years now and I'm damn well going to carry on making it until somebody gets it.

I discovered something surprising about Boney M recently but I can't remember what it was. One of their songs was written by someone I liked from the 60s, or something.

Much better than all these other bastárds. Well done.

Basically, it's a Middle Eastern folk standard called "Sidi Mansour". Legendary German producer Frank Farian heard it whilst down there on holiday and turned it into Ma Baker for his group Boney M. The rest, as they say, is history.

Why is there a Middle Eastern folk standard about a gangster in 1920s America?

I don't get it.

Got it. Mod band The Creation wrote and had a hit with 'Painter Man' in 1966.

Do you know them? They sounded like early Who.

Oh, of course. Legendary. I understood they actually inspired The Who, among many others. And isn't "Creation Records" a tribute to them?

That's what it says on the internet about McGee's label.

I have been trying and fill some of the vast gaps in my sixties knowledge* and appreciation. It was the best decade, after all. 'My Generation' (album) was the year before The Creation's first singles though.

* An impossible task, as whenever I find something I like I want to listen to it all the time, limiting further exploration.
