I made fried chicken, chips, sweet potato fries, onion rings and salad and G’s boys basically made their own chicken burgers.

I think they're fine as long as you don't think of them as potatoes - which they emphatically are not.

Granted, the name 'sweet potato' doesn't really help in this regard.

Yes. I've never seen them offered to the exclusion of normal potatoes. That would be an outrage, I agree.
