Not Chipstix, they're maize, aren't they? I mean those sort of potato matchstick jobs.

The finest crisps ever, they are called Potato Sticks, rather imaginatively.

That looks like the ones I'm thinking of. Just potato, grease and salt, plus whatever chemical approximates vinegar flavour. Acetic acid, perhaps.

They are, but I kind of like them. They're weird.

Oh, and here's an idea: you know that absolutely massive Tesco about half a mile from your house...?

The one with the gyppos and the common people? Yes, what about it?

Remember, I very, very rarely leave the safety of the compound any more. I get anxieties just walking as far as the gates. The idea of entering Tesco fills me with dread.

Well send the wife, then. She just lounges around the house pretending to work these days as I understand it. Make her earn her keep.

Waitrose appear to fúcking love them, sc. Strange twáts.

They do redeem themselves with their wine section, though.

This is on offer at the moment. It is ok for a midweek glug

Sweet potatoes make my soul hurt.

I perfected the art of the sweet potato chip in the last 12 months. The secret is parboil them first, dust them with icing sugar and then fry at 200 degress C until beautifully crisp.

I flatter myself that they are the best sweet potato fries I've ever tasted.

And, naturally, not one of them is as good as a bad potato chip. :-(

EDIT: Cornflour, obviously. Not fvcking icing sugar. I think I've got the early onsets.

Thanks i, but I'm afraid I boycott all Australian and New Zealandish goods. Because they're absolute ****s to a man. Ill-mannered louts with ridiculous accents. I'm not giving them my money.

She'll come back sith some fair trade organic vegan quinoa-flavoured nonsense.

She keeps buying some special honey at £40 a pop ffs. She's utterly out of control.

A brain fart of some sort. I've no idea why I wrote icing sugar. Purely because of the association with dusting, I suppose.

Worrying.

Hmmm. Does this honey contain the elixir of eternal youth or something? Because if it doesn't, you're getting ripped off.

Also, if it's Manuka honey, it's from New Zealand, which contradicts your earlier statement.

Well, yes they are, but other decent wines are from a selection of countries such as

France
Spain
Italy
Argentina
Chile
Sarf Ifrica

where the people are, well, similar but different.

Anyway, try this one then, it'll remind you of Unai

What is wrong with the Greeks, btw? Imagine having the wherewithal and climate to grow grapes and still not manage to produce a single drinkable wine.

Lamb-overcooking layabouts.

Rioja tends to be a bit powerful for me. These days I favour the 12% stuff; an Argentinian Malbec or a Chilean Merlot suits me fine.

I'm with Sir C on this. Much as I love a big, chewy Gigondas or even an Amarone, a bottle of that and the next morning one is good for nowt.

A nice light, quaffable Spaniard, on the other hand, and you're fresh as a daisy.

I do like a Gigondas. and a Crozes-Hermitage. :cloud9:

psst - Aldi do a very decent Valpolicella Ripasso for about £8.
Send someone in from work to collect a couple of bottles for you.

F*ck me, I mean really f*ck me sideways - please tell me that expensive wine is never wasted on your palate, Dutchie.
