Let's for one second pretend every single thing about this 'Putin killed a high treasonous traitor' is actually true. Erm, so?

You’ve not mentioned the death of the innocent Brit by stander. Or do we just kiss that off too ?

On the subject of dodgy Russians, appears Roman is heading for the exit door at Chelsea. Just needs to find someone willing to stump up £3bn

You wouldn't won the pitch though... didn't they sell it in small lots to individuals so nobody could build on it?

I think their strategy is to not try to wriggle out of it, but to simply lie, lie and lie again. It's what they do. They tell lies that they know everyone (other than Ash) knows are lies and then wait for it to go away and act as though it never happened.

I think there are actually different Russian words for lies that are *real* lies and lies that are told because they suit you even though everyone knows you are lying.

So it is incredibly bad manners to do it in public in a British restaurant.

If he wanted to kill someone here he should have contacted our own security forces and made the appropriate arrangements to do it quietly and privately.

Pretty much the working manual for every politician in every country throughout the world.

Stop being silly, Peter. There are degrees, you know.

While there may be a common theme, the idea of a British politician lying the way Russia has done about something as significant as the Salisbury poisonings is inconceivable. If for no other reason than our press would not allow it.

Or would you think RT and the BBC is a fair comparison?

Really?

The Belgrano?

Hillsborough?

Orgreave?

The Iraq War?

No, a british politician would never lie over something important......

Yeah, and none of those politicians were ever held to account over the Iraq War or Hillsborough etc etc :hehe:

Right..... so as long as the (partial) truth comes out about 30 years later it doesnt count as lying?

Admirable shifting of the goalposts there.

Just for the record, no politician has been held to account over the Belgrano, Hillsborough, or Orgreave.

The only attempted prosecution over the belgrano incident was of a civil servant who leaked a document about it.

Speaking of shifting the goalposts - in terms of audacity and lack of accountability from their local media, you are comparing the way that Russia has lied about Salisbury with the lies told about Hillsborough or Belgrano, as two examples?

Really? You honestly see those as equivalent?

Not specifically, no. I was simply illustrating the point that politicians lying is hardly a disease peculiar to Russia.

With regard to Hillsborough you are on seriously thin ice banging on about the media holding people to account given that at least one major tabloid newspaper was 100% complicit in the cover up from the very beginning. I am being generous to several other newspapers here.....

They are not comparable because Russia are lying about a covert action, something which everyone lies about and which should very rarely become public knowledge at all. I am amazed that anybody, anywhere would think for a minute that Putin would tell the truth about it.

Oh, I agree. If you sign the official secrets act you are bound by it. It's treason- hang him high :)
