Oh yes.. My first memory of the World Cup. Mexico 70.. Proper World Cup, unlike today’s tepid offering, littered by penalties and completely forgettable games..

 That was the scotch team that was going to win the World Cup despite containing Gordon McQueen.

There is a documentary about it on iPlayer
I had trouble understanding what the participants were saying
What a deluded nation they were!
Bruce Rioch now looks old

You could well be right. I was lost in thoughts of the first time I saw that Peru kit and an era where Brazil played with such panache unseen in these parts.
Just read there were almost 3 goals per game in that tournament. :cloud9:

1970? Great, if you enjoy your football played at walking pace.

Indeed it was. Also high.

Nevertheless, it was played at a walking pace

Stop it. Stop it now.. You’re ruining my skewed childhood view of everything being better ..

Even as a 5-6yr old beginner football fan, my first memories of anything non-Arsenal was Gordon McQueen being ****.

He was the thinking man's Willie Young, though.

The first WC you remember was the 1970 one? :yikes: I'm too much of a gentleman to ask your age...

:hehe: Oh that's not too bad, you're only around 6 years older than me. 7ish years old and watching/remembering the WC is pretty impressive. The first one I watched was 1982, I was 13 :hehe:
Both tournaments saw the best two sides in Brazils history btw :cloud9:
