night, it occurred to me that there was not one heterosexual white male character in the entire programme who was represented as anything other than evil. The good guys are all some combination of female, black, hispanic and/or gay. Balls to this, i thought.

Also, I don't really understand why every male in the programme is queuing up to shag the heavy-lidded, hook-nosed, dumpy broad in the lead role. She mings particularly hard even in a post-apocalyptic dystopia. This thought is probably just evidence of my toxic masculinity, though.

I watched it as well. It was bull****.

And I say this as a chap who had a very pleasant evening in the pub with some gays the other night.

I don't think we can hold the gays responsible for this, p. They'd never be this joyless. That takes feminists.

I laughed particularly hard when she discovered that the black man who'd rescued her was a secret muslim. Because of course muslims are good guys as well. They'd never participate in the oppression of women. Oh, no.

That's another thing that bothers me. There are societies on earth where women are actually treated like that, but they aren't Trump's America or Brexit Britain. And you'll never catch progressive types complaining loudly about them. No, it's all about how evil white, western Christian men are. I wonder why?

Because historically we always were. It is only in recent years (relatively speaking) that we have started to embrace the better angels of our nature.

I say we- of course, I am not a christian.

White, Christian men have brought greater health, wealth and happiness to the entire population of the fvcking globe than any other fvcking group in history fvcking EVER.

And greater misery, poverty, death, disease, slavery, proselytisation, starvation and subjugation than any other- in the modern era.

We are all guilty. Admittedly you and your ilk much more than me and mine but we will still swing from the same rope....and rightly so.

What utter nonsense. Consider the tremendous humanitarian records of Genghis Khan, Cetshwayo, Ranavalona, or the Aztec and Inca people. Everywhere he has gone, the white man has brought civilisation and the Good Word to the barbarian hordes. Occasionally, admittedly, doing the Lord's work required a firm hand. But these isolated incidents are mere details.

Me and my ilk? The Irish, you mean?

Fair point, actually. Ghastly lot.

I suggest you listen to Iron Maiden's classic 'Run To The Hills'.....

Great song :)

I would never question your right to hate your own kind. Why do you have such a problem with me despising Britain and wanting the worst for it?

Self-loathing is clearly not an alien concept to you.....

Is that the one about murdering American Indians?

You know what the American Indians were actually like, right? I suggest you read 'Empire Of The Summer Moon' about the Comanches in Texas and ask yourself how you might have gone about handling that bunch of pitiless, psychopathic, torturing, murdering mass rapists.

The key here is that I'm English of Irish heritage,am very grateful to live this side of the Irish Sea and love England. You, on the other hand, are English, live here, were raised here, benefit from everything this country offers and still despise this country.

Perhaps it's the fact that because my parents came from somewhere much worse, I know how lucky I am and you - being of purely English stock - don't know how lucky you are not to have come from somewhere else.

'What do they know of England, who only England know?' and all that. ;-)

Back to Springsteen.....

If I am alone in wondering why twist and shout makes every ****ing gig and working on the highway around 90% of them, then so be it.

If I am alone in wanting to hear Backstreets, Racing in the Street, Something in the Night, anything from Nebraska apart from Johnny ****ing 99, anything from Tom joad etc etc etc, then ok, I will admit it. I am weird, I have precise requirements, I am to be laughed at and vilified.

I'll just get another beer and pretend to enjoy Darlington County for the 8th gig in a row....... yet another song about nobbing underage girls by the way....the Rix collection.

Does he still have the line about owning the World Trade Centres in Darlington County? Bit bleak if so. :-(

Also, what's wrong with Johnny 99? Apart from the idea of someone mixing Tanqueray and wine in the same glass, I mean. :puke:

It is basically the worst song on the album but lends itself best to the live format. Hence it is the only one from the album that he ever plays. I get why, but it ****ing sucks. What I wouldnt give to hear Used Cars, Mansion on the Hill, My Father's House..... not a chance.

Very occasionally Atlantic City makes it on to the set, to be fair.

Given that he single-handedly healed America's wounds post 911 with his second* best album, I'd say he can sing what he likes about the World Trade Centre.
