Yes - sadly mate I would suggest you send it back if it isn't too late.

It's not *too* bad but their app is buggy at times and really struggles if you don't have super fast and consistent broadband. My biggest issue is that you are tied to the speakers and that Sonos doesn't really offer anything that any set of Bluetooth speakers doesn't other than the ability to synchronize rooms easily which is something that we rarely use.

Why did you decide to buy it?

Cyrus 8 amp, Arcam AirDAC, Mission speakers. An old skool / modern technology mash up. That's the way forward.

Their app is supposed to be utterly brilliant, not sure how long ago you used it.

I do have stupidly fast broadband, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.

I currently have a Denon AV receiver and crap little Panasonic speakers with a decent sub that I got off Ears. The Sonos sub is supposed to be awesome and I now have full surround with no wires. It has 100 day no quibble returns on all Sonos stuff, so I guess if it's not that great I'll send it back.

I use it every day mate. It's OK but as I said, buggy. The entire app will hang from time to time and the music stops while you wait for it to recover. Grouping rooms, as an example, routinely hangs. I live rurally and my broadband is around 18MB however it is unstable so I may be experiencing something you will never see.

But you rarely actually use Sonos, you spend most of your time in Spotify or Tune In Radio or what ever apps you want to use through Sonos. If you buy a speaker with Bluetooth and have Spotify the only advantage of Sonos is that you can sync rooms more easily, something we virtually never use.

I've bought it more for the telly than for music, I have UE Boom in the kitchen which is more than sufficient for that job. Ordered the Playbar, Sub and 2x Sonos Ones.

My broadband is up in the 50's MB consistently

If I had to do it over again, I'd just but one of these for the main room and smaller Bluetooth speakers for bedrooms and such

I've got the Sky Devialet system in the playroom and that's excellent value for £250!

Back to my original question - what does Sonos actually offer other than syncing rooms? Any Bluetooth speaker can be synced to an input, why do you think you need Sonos at all unless you really like their speakers?

I had a long conversation with the electronics type expert in store one day and he eventually told me Sonos was not worth getting.

Something to do with it being too restrictive.

I am old skool and run an iPod through a Bose sound dock.

But you could connect any Bluetooth speaker to your telly. And as I said, you rarely actually use Sonos as an application. You turn it on, select where you want to play something and then go into the application you use to select music. If you play music in one room the overwhelming majority of the time (as we do) and/or you almost always use one telly (as we do) you will hardly ever use their software.

Sorry to be a downer mate, but I've had it for 7 or 8 years now I think and would not buy it again.

It works perfectly well for my requirements though I accept I need to upgrade it.

For the radio I use a very old iPhone which I hold in place in the sound dock using a pair of swimming goggles.

Bluetooth generally drops far more frequently than wireless though

The connectivity between your television and the Sonos controller is no different than between your television and a Bluetooth speaker. One of the differences is that Sonos uses the internet so you are exposed to any issues with it as well as any bugs/issues in Sonos itself. With a Bluetooth speaker you have connectivity from the television to the speaker only, so only one thing that can go wrong.

That's my biggest issue with Sonos, the number of times it just stops working and you need to wait minutes for it to recover. Hard for me to say how much of that is due to my broadband and how much is Sonos itself.

All you need to know is that if what they're listening too through their sophisticated rigs is a lossy mp3 then they might as well be listening to a cassette, as 90% of what was recorded has been deleted.

:bluetouchpaper:

I don't know if it'll be as fun to say that as it used to be in Jorge's day.

The playbar and sub are pretty decent, if you're looking to boost the TV.
As WES said, the muti-room thing doesn't really pan out for me. You don't often go to the effort of syncing up speakers in your bedroom, bathroom, garden shed. It still boils down to a couple of rooms, tops.
I've often toyed with the idea of forking out for one of these. Reviews are great and if you're not into throwing 3 or 4 grand at a top system set up and like the idea of one box of tricks..

I'm not really an audiophile, just like simplicity and general ease of use plus wireless surround Sound. If I don't like Sonos stuff I will just send it back and get an upgraded AV receiver and KEF speakers

I do like the look of that Naim system but to be honest I'm quite happy listening to music on my UE or via my Bose headphones

Absolutely correct , a.

And any speaker which is reliant on bluetooth for connectivity is, quite frankly, going to be shíte.

And surround sound? A decent subwoofer, central speaker and left and right will do you.

Speakers? PMC is the way to go, I'm afraid. Though 2nd hand will do you.

Buy a Sonos Boost

£99 so that Sonos works properly? I'd rather they fixed their software. It's an idea, though.

I find it intensely irritating that I can be surfing the internet and streaming movies without any issue but Sonos will then choke at the slightest disruption. They should make their software work better imo.

£84 on Smart Home Sounds but if you're using a wireless service and by your own admission your wireless is not great, then surely it's a small price to pay for a fully functioning piece of kit?
