I can't help but feel that anyone who reads this article and his list of crimes - particularly against the elderly - will take issue with the central assertion of the headline.

I wonder if the flowers they nicked and left at the scene are still there?

I would say his death was apposite and just; in both the poetic and legal sense. The picture of the commendable gentleman who cleansed us of this human pustule appears to be holding two pints so my guess is that he won't have to pay for his beer for some time hence. Splendid chap!

I agree. But the police still have to do their job and investigate a violent death - ****ing petitions on Facebook calling for all charges to be dropped - he hasn't been charged with anything and as the law stands probably won't (and shouldn't) be

They didn't need to release his name or announce he'd been arrested on suspicion of murder. All they needed to do was say that a 78 year-old man was helping police with their enquiries and then quietly release him without charge.

If he had anyone looking out for him that knows how to use social to raise some money he'd be rich. I'd bung him a tenner nae sweat.

And rob him of all the credit? Hardly seems fair.

Release his name after being released
Then he can get all the deserved credit :-)
