View Full Version : Waking on Sunday morning with a vicious hangover and a need for a fry up

I discovered a bowl of chips, leftover from the previous night's dinner.

Yes I did. I re-fried the chips and served them with breakfast.

Don't let anyone ever try to tell you that a full English breakfast isn't improved by chips, because it is. Dipping a chip into your yolk is simply the finest breakfast activity. From now on my fry ups will always include chips.

I'm aghast. Did your wife take a dim view?

Indeed not. I might add that it was my wife, together with your ex, who goaded me into doing it. wd v and r.

I'm outraged. Chips for breakfast is basically how the Roman Empire declined and fell. Except with them it was probably dormice and bumming.

These were skinny chips, twice-fried the night before, then thirdly-fried. Oh God now I'm salivating. I ADDED BROWN SAUCE! BROWN!

I left the pub at 5.30 on Sunday morning and then had to go to the ****ing St Patrick's day paradeat noon. With drums and pipes and people being really loud. Your morning sounds way better

My only regret was the lack of fried bread.

Afterwards I had toast and marmalade. Lime marmalade.

Then I groaned on the sofa for some hours.

Without wishing to sound churlish, why did they not have the St Patrick's Day parade on...y'know...St Patrick's Day?

I suppose the country hosts a nation of drunks who cannot wait to celebrate St Patrick's Day the Sunday before it arrives

I made Coq Au Vin the other week. As always, the best bit was the discs of fried bread dipped in the sauce. Why is fried bread so good?

Chips with a fry up are pure Motorway service station C
Did you have a tall sugar dispenser and a set of specialist car plates next to you on the table ?

It's always good but, of course, it's best when fried in bacon grease.

Two points, if I may.

1. The pubs are open at 0530 hours?
2. This seems necessarily late for a man of your vintage to stay out. Haven't you learnt that nothing good ever happens after midnight?

It certainly is. Except that the yolk is also there to dip sausage into, and you end up needing a lot of eggs.

It's always on the Sunday beforehand - I don't even know why they have one. I hate it

1 It was a lock-in - though they generally can stay open later here anyway. I think the latest/earliest I have left a pub is 9am after the McGregor/Mayweather fight. Stayed pretty late a couple of times during the Ashes as well
2 Absolutely not, doc. Shocking planning
