View Full Version : Imagine your last ever meal being in Zizzi :-(

Actually, I had an oddly memorable lasagne in a Zizzi on the Fulham Road before Chelsea 2 Arsenal 3 (Winterburn screamer) in 1997.

Sadly, that memory is clouded by the fact that a Chelsea fan spat in my face after the game. Weirdly, he then double checked that I was actually a Gooner, and when I mumbled "'fraid so mate", he cuffed me around the head and said "never apologise for who you support, fella, NEVER!" and trotted off

I had a pizza in one a couple of years ago. It was perfectly acceptable; a crisp, slightly blistered base, rendered tomato, some processed pork products and, crucially, a bottle of chilli oil.

There is speculation that the chosen weapon was an opioid. I put it to you that a Sunday afternoon out with your daughter, culminating in a pizza and a heroin doze, is something to which we might all aspire.

To my knowledge, I’ve never been in a Zizzi. Or an Ask. I think I went to Prezzo once and got very cross about the service until they gave me the meal for free.

I think I’d prefer my daughter didn’t go with me, tbh. :-\

Anyway, they seem to be suggesting VX now.

These places are exclusively for families with small children. I find the sight of people dining in them without kids almost poetic in its sadness.

never been to a Zizzi.

I have been unfortunate enough to have been in both an Ask and a Bella Italia.

I tell you what Clive, Italian food is carbohydrately dull.

I have frequented such places when doing the 'informal business lunch' thing, when neither party feels it appropriate to be frequenting a pub at lunchtime. I've even found myself in a Jamie Oliver's. Now that was a mistake.

Mine was at Le Gavroche with my girlfriend at the time.

I believe I had the langoustine starter, rabbit main before finishing with a cheese platter.

Next night was a cheese sandwich :(

Yes, it's mainly when I see melancholy couples dining in them, looking around at the chaos of children running round tables and throwing crayons at each other, that I feel a deep sorrow. These are also the kind of people who invariably own Tastecards and only go to restaurants where they are applicable, so really it's their own fault for being crass scum.

What on earth is VX?

A nerve agent invented by ICI in the 1950s.

Quite cheeky of them to poison them that close to Porton Down, really. Taking the pìss, that is.

I was presented with a Tastecard by my new employer the other day. I think the only restaurant on there at which I’ve ever eaten is Pizza Express.

I just don't understand it. If I want to eat cheaply and mediocrely, I'll send the missus to Aldi and get her to cook in the comfort of my own home

What's a tastecard? Like a scratchcard?

Oh yes.

I find 1-2 of the so called high street options to be very palatable. The Mrs actually suggested Zizzi a few weeks ago as we were turned away from our first choice.

Next time I may give it my custom.

The parents here should be shot.

There is no fúcking excuse for this behaviour in a public dining environment.

Would you care to embellish on who exactly your sources are, here? I didn't realise that MI6 / the police freely dealt in speculation.

I suppose it’s just for those who want to grab a quick, inexpensive bite to eat while they’re out doing something else and want to stay in their comfort zone.

 Children are over-indulged and over-stimulated these days. My daughter was taught how to behave in a restaurant from a very early age. Such behaviour was simply not tolerated.

Nah. My sister and her family eat out loads and basically choose where they eat depending on where her various discount cards and vouchers are valid. I even have a couple of friends who I meet up with every couple of months and will still look for places offering various deals and whatnot.

These aren't even people short of cash. They just have bottom of the barrel tastes and standards.

Everyone wants to be on television nowadays, R. It's shameful, really.

In the past, certain professions, the priesthood, the police, news reporters, politicians, prostitutes and so on, involved particular lifetime vows of poverty and also discretion. No longer; nowadays they all want to write bestselling memoirs and appear on CNN.

The trouble with that, of course, was that the reason for refusing to tolerate anti-social behaviour from children is that adults didn't like the competition :-\

A baby crying, whilst annoying, is acceptable.

A 6 year old shouting, running about and throwing things is not. And this behaviour should render their parents for summary execution.

Indeed. Why is there always some c unt who bellows and gaffaws as if wanting to involve passers by in the street. I mean, laughing and speaking that loudly requires a huge amount of oxygen.

I was in the pub the other day, enjoying a quiet pint. My reverie was interrupted, however, by a toddler running repeatedly from one end of the pub to the other, trailed by his silly bitch of a mother, who thought we all ought to be delighted by the antics of her sexcrement. Worse, they eventually sat down next to me and the little gobsh1te was crawling over the bank of seats, at one point putting his head in my lap. This was the point at which I decided it was time to have a word. :furious:
