View Full Version : Where do you breakfast whilst on the road?

Recently I'm right off the McMuffin. The Burger King equivalent is garbage. Little Chef is obviously the best option, but that means leaving the motorway and following the correct ley lines to find one. Places like Costa with their so-called 'breakfast paninis' can do one.

Service stations used to have a trucker's area where you'd get a proper breakfast. Now there is fúck all and one must eat before leaving home. :-(

You can use the canteen in the service station and be charged Michelin-starred prices for some bacon that looks like it's been boiled, some sausages whose acquaintance with a pig was brief and unsatisfactory for both parties and endless fücking beans. :-(

It's a piss-poor outlook ain't it?

Of course one of the advantages of using the A1 to go oop norf is the availability of the Little Chef. Early Starter, extra egg.

If you ever find yourself on the M7 outside Moneygall you could always pull into the Barack Obama Plaza.

There's a pwopah old transport caff on the Uxbridge Road in Hillingdon, which I experienced (albeit on foot) on Saturday. Wonderful place. They leave the teabag in the mug. That's how good it is.

There are still a few Little Chefs on the A1.

Does v partake of the Early Starter?

She does indeed. Just the one egg for her, though. She has a well developed sense of proportion.

Pit Stop brekky for me.

Also, you should try the Stibbington Diner on the Old North Road just off the A1.

They have a state-of-the-art website.

It's a caff. Why would you need a menu?

It's a caff. Why would you need a menu?

To see if the smashed avo comes on sourdough or perhaps a bagel.

Burney "It's a caff. Why would you need a menu?"

To sweep all the spilt salt and sugar off of the table and onto the floor

No, but then you order it and she says 'Bubble's off, luv!' while not looking at you.

It's part of the ritual.

But then you need a back up plan. Will you order an extra fried slice to make up for it, or tentatively request fried potatoes, chips, or, God help us, hash browns?

Chips are your safe bet. If you order hash browns, she might give you 'the look' and say something scornful about how this 'ain't the Ritz' so that all the common men can laugh at you. :-(

I had this just a few weeks back.

Crispy Pulled Pork
with a Potato & Onion Hash, Black Pudding, Relish, Fried Egg, Hollandaise Sauce(1,2,3,13)

The numbers at the end are something for benders.

Yes, in these places I already feel somewhat conspicuous. I never know what to do with my top hat while I'm standing at the counter :-(

If they're out of hash browns ask if the head chef can knock up a side order of devilled kidneys instead

But for me, the joys of breakfast in Ireland are the availability of white pudding and farls with your fry up.

This is true however increasingly it is more difficult to find a plain breakfast without some flash **** chef acting the wee bóllocks and adding some shíte to the mix such as parsley or, and I am not joking here, spelt toast.

Fúcks sake.

Top trick sw; when you buy your truffle, place it, with your eggs, in a tupperware box for storage. The truffle flavour will impregnate your eggs after a couple of days and you won't even have to grate it!

You can have that one on me.

Shít tip if you don't mind me saying.
