US going into a big bout of national soul-searching about gun control, only for them to do precisely fück all about it all over again? That promises to be tedious.

It's about time they accepted that it is no longer possible for them to do anything about it. There are simply too many guns out there for the tide to be turned back now. Of course they'd be better off in a society like ours where guns simply aren't an option for private citizens, but they're about 200 years late to do anything about that now.

The way things are going I'd be happier if guns were available here, to be honest. The apparent ballistic rise of the radical, violent far left can only result in bloodshed sooner or later, and a semi-automatic weapon or two might be useful for protecting the memsahib against the likes of peter and jorge :-(

I remember in my younger days back in Baltimore you could buy an M-16 assault rifle out of the back of a comic book for $169. It would arrive in the mail.

If there were an election tommorow, you’d vote for a Labour Party led by Corbyn, McDonnell and Abbott with Momentum as their attack dogs.

Given that fact, it’s hard to see how you can be described as anything else, p.

I'm wondering what Jorge with his hipsterish pro-Catalan pose is making of current events? After all, he's got a hard-on for Catalonia, but is on record as deploring people having referendums to determine how and by whom they are governed. Hard to square that circle.

He might focus on the violence handed out by the police to peaceful protesters. It wasnt pretty.......

None of us like referenda. The worst way to measure the public mood is to ask them a direct question. You might get a direct answer.

It was rather splendid, actually. These people can only treat their political opponents as Aunt Sallies. When confronted calmly and asked to explain themselves lucidly, they are flummoxed.

Well the harsh truth is that there is really naff all they can do to change the reality on the ground, which is that there are 300 million firearms in circulation in the United States and they're virtually untraceable. Are you going to take them back? If you do, only the law-abiding will give them to you, which means you have all the guns in the hands of the criminals and none in the hands of law-abiding citizens. Yes, you can ban dum-dums or semi-automatic weapons, but what about all the ones that are already out there? You can't do anything about them.

If I were American (which the good lord forbid), I would most certainly own guns. I would get trained in their use and keep them somewhere safe, but certainly I would feel safer with one.

I've always been puzzled by Chicken Cottage. Why a cottage? Why the rural imagery for a chain that is almost exclusively to be found in the shīttier bits of South London. Why not a Chicken House, a Chicken Flat or a Chicken Semi?

You know that the correct choice is the kebab. A large mixed.

In the morning you may stare at the grease congealed on the remains and indulge in some self-disgust, but for this evening, enjoy.

I'll say one thing for this Las Vegas shooter, he's broken the record and then, rather than carrying on selfishly, topped himself. Thus he's brought matters to a close and left the field open for others to come after his record. Sporting of him, really.

True. One wouldn't normally think of a hut as an ideal place to consume pizza. And as it turns out, it isn't.
