I'm curious to know how a religion founded some 12 centuries before the invention of the combustion engine managed to come up with a rule about women driving automobiles, but there you go. Allah moves in mysterious ways.

Apparently one of Saudi's influential imams felt driving might damage their ovaries. :hehe:

Which is, I suppose, the biggest issue with Muslims and their integration with the West. The degree to which men who spend decades sat in a room reading the Koran then become influential members of their communities/towns/cities/countries.

I suppose we will know in about 30-40 years if this continues to be an issue in Europe.

they'll rescind the law just as soon as a woman tries to parallel park outside The Grand Mosque

Will there be an amnesty before the men are allowed to take the piss out of them for their inability to parallel park?

THey are just asking for trouble. Look at what happened here when we let women start doing things and thinking.

It's the road to hell.

True enough. We let them vote and then Labour governments started happening. Terrible idea.

F*ck off. It was letting them in pubs where it really went all wrong. :-(

Where a religion is also the source of temporal law, there is virtually no way of separating a religious community from the teachers of the religion, so I'm guessing it will continue.

And in 30-40 years' time, I'm afraid it'll be too late to do anything about it. We'll be fücked.

There's a strong suspicion that women will just be routinely failed in the driving test.

You won't catch the Saudis making that mistake.

 Sausage-fest boozers are over-rated imo. Popular with men who enjoy the smell of other men's testosterone, I suspect. :judge:

 It's not women who've ruined pubs so much as families and the consequent importance of food.

There speaks a man who's never tried the prosciutto wrapped halibut with cauliflower puree at The Bull in Highgate

I'm sure it's very nice, but the existence of such a thing on a pub's menu means that place has ceased in all meaningful senses to be a pub.

I don't think you'd approve of their beverage offerings, either - they have a drinks menu featuring about 100 craft beers.

Fùckssake! Speak to me no more of this hellish place. I find the mere thought of it depressing.

To be fair, that pub was always full of ****s. It was never a 'boozer' in any real sense.

In fact in the 19th century, eating dinner in pubs was commonplace amongst the non-kitchen-owning classes. Probably not prosciutto wrapped halibut with cauliflower puree though. Cauliflower cheese, perhaps. :cloud9:

Of course. But that was the 19th century. I appreciate that this is part of the evolution of pubs, it's just that it's an evolution I find remarkably unwelcome and I pine for the past.

Speaking of pining for the past - remember when we had more than three batsmen who might be considered of international class. Think this is the worst squad I have ever seen for an Ashes series - and that includes ones that contained Martin McCague and Alan Mullally. Good job the Aussies are a bit **** as well

Decent batters in middle order though. And having no top order is nothing new. In 2009 ISTR being 30-odd for 3 quite often.

We're persisting with Ballance, ffs! Deeply depressing.

196-0 at one point at Lord's would be kind of nice if we could get scores like that again

Worse in the one day selection - Willey's out, Ball's in

Bit harsh. Its still a decent bowling attack and, despite the glaring problems in the top five, there is still plenty of talent in the batting- Cook, Root, Stokes, Moeen, Bairstow.

I think my frustration is more that there is more talent in the side than too many of the performances suggest.

That's right, get used to it.

Its a new me. The old me still reappears every time we give the ball away in our own half or fail to defend a short corner.

I was unaware you were a fan of cricket but now I know. Let's hope you know more about it than other subjects you hold forth on.

There it is. Insulting, negative, patronising.

I shan't continue this conversation.
