around or who wants to leave.

Perhaps the manager should look at himself?

Plus, he would be talking to the wrong people; it's all about agents and representatives nowadays.

Right. Plenty of them dont have the option of leaving- nobody wants them.

Once upon a time, signing players that nobody else seemed much interested in would've been considered genius :-\

Ah, so keeeping them is an even bigger stroke of genius. Its free ;)

The biggest mistake we made was buying players other people might want. It causes no end of trouble.

At the very least, he needs to look at his calendar. That meeting should have taken place in May. Rather worrying to sit down in late August and start asking 'right then, who actually still wants to be here?"

In May we had switched to a new formation, gone on a nice run of 10 games or so and then beat Chelsea in the FA Cup.

Believe it or not, Trent, there were people dumb enough to believe that we were good enough to challenge for the league on that basis.

Our average points total in the league is 73 pts, over the last 9 seasons. The last time we got over 80 pts was 10 seasons ago in 2008. We are not winning another league title under Wenger. The claim from the club that they were targeting over 85 pts this year was laughable. With this manager?

On paper, and as per usual, we were not far from being challengers. Keep what was useful, get rid of the dross and sign three or four good players and chalenge was not unrealistic.

But beyond this paper exercise there is the culture of complacency, of letting things stay as they are, not rocking the boat and of course let players go if they have to. That rules the challenge out.

Right, but 85 points counts as a genuine challenge, at least. Nobody would complain too much if you achieved that each season, and once in a while, you would finish top.
