I must say, I am partial to a marmalade sandwich. Must be the chunky stuff, though, and the bread needs to be processed white sliced.

:homer: Mmm marmalade sandwiches

Hang on - he's definitely been dead before. Death is just cheating now

Nope, died yesterday, apparently.

I remember always being upset about poor Paddington being abandoned and sent to London, presumably in order to send money home. Were his family Irish?

Riddle me this, given that you know all about literature and that.

If Paddington is a bear, how come he speaks English?

He was a pen pal of Rupert for years

He was from Peru was he not?

Begs the question how he got all the way from Peru to London on his own.

I very much doubt it. Actually we buried her in an outfit by her favourite deigner, an Irish lady called Vonnie Reynolds. Made from a peculiarly heavy material, it made her look positively regal. My guess is that it survives to this day, although a lot depends on the water table at the garveyard, apparently.

He stowed away in a lifeboat on a boat, eating marmalade.

Obviously.

Obviously.

Fishguard. That's why he arrived at Paddington. In those days bears were allowed free travel on Great Western Railways. No one knows why.

Did you get Paddington books in Ireland, sw?

I have no idea to be honest, I was never really a man for books.

Ah. I see. Suddenly, much becomes clear.

Oh dear. I love Paddington Bear. My favourite thing about him is that he always keeps his duffle coat on when taking his bath as, rather sensibly, I think, he does not want to get too wet.

Actually, I reckon that's my favourite thing about anybody.

RIP, Mr Bond.

If that's the case I fear he hasn't quite thought that through. What with the absorbent properties of duffle coats and so forth.

Yes, but that keeps you, the wearer, from getting wet. That is, if it's a proper one, made of wool.

Hydrophilics, you see; science stuff. Clever fellows, those bears.
