I think he's quite tremendous and will prove to be an excellent signing

*most arsenal players have been a figure of abuse.

I won't really judge him properly until he has a decent partner in midfield. He has had to play with some absolute ****e this season. Coquelin and Ramsey have been awful. He even had to play with Chamberlain next to him at some point.

It is the most cluttered area of the team with Xhaka and then Ramsey, Coquelin, Elneny and soon Wilshere all competing to play beside, maybe Cazorla also though I fear he is now dead, Chamberlain also being touted by some as a viable option.

Thing is would hope or expect to see at least 2-3 of them go in the summer so I am not sure we are any clearer who our best midfield is, Xhaka + ????

Definitely best with Cazorla but, as you say, I fear he's gone. So it will be Wilshere next season, I should imagine.

Xhaka + the world class midfielder that we have needed for years and that Wenger will now sign since not even he can have any faith in the Ramsey any longer.

Laugh all you wish WES. but it's only fair that Wenger let's all of his current players thrive in his newly formed erm formation that was introduced last night. I would expect at least another season. and possibly a 2nd as we will need to learn from things and get the speeerit right.

I'm quite excited about it. It gives him a new project for the next 2 years and maybe, just maybe, it will change the nature of our annual collapse (which seems to be getting progressively more severe).

There is virtually no chance of Him leaving so I'm sure that we all agree it's better to try this new model for a couple of years rather than persisting with 4231 which clearly doesn't work.

It will be dropped for the weekend R.

Which given the amount of time he has had to judge Coq, Elneny and Ramsey in training and games, suggests that none of them are up to it.

Which suggests he should sell some of them and move on to a new and better version regardless of cost.

At this point I will refer you back to the end of my previous post.

I'll have to doff my cap to Him if He does. It'd be a very bold move from the stubborn old man.

It will be a bold move to revert to a defensive system he has used consistently for two decades?

Wenger even tinkered with the substitute times yesterday.

a few odd things happened

Wenger did change his formation
We won
Sanchez looked ridiculously happy at the end. and even Ozil was smiling.

I did not watch it but am aware that he changed to a back 3 last night. Again not having seen the match I believe it worked to a degree but with players at times (understandably) looking a little uncomfortable.

Boro away I think you can try these things on, City at Wembley in a Cup semi final I expect to see us revert.

I think it was more that Wenger was expecting Boro to appraoch the game the same way Palace did a week before. But that never seemed to happen.

I don't think it's a big masterplan of Wenger to be a permanent fixture.

I seem to remember Bendtner, Lupoli and Stokes all looked like world-beaters in the stiffs...

I concur - as Pat said below, it was as much to cope with their big lads up front. Although I can see us using it more often. This left back from Shalke is more than comfortable in the system. Quite a big chap as well

Whatever he did well or badly last night at least he consistently showed for the ball out of defence and didn't opt to hide upfield behind a big bloke or stand statue-like next to his marker. Ramsey on the other hand seems to be allergic to possession outside the final third.

Xhaka will be ok and when he is I hope we all remember that Tony Cascarino described him as the worst signing of all time :)

If you didn't see Ramsey showing for the ball in our half you watched a different game than I did. He showed plenty and received it plenty and did f*ck all with it pretty much every time.

He looks a player completely shorn of confidence, he seems unwilling to try and create and endlessly plays square balls that any Sunday leaguer could play. His idea of creativity is to endlessly run forward hoping something works out.

Possibly this is because every time he tries something it goes wrong. Who knows.

Xhaka is the only person of the current team whom I would consider casting in my movie. The rest are degenerate pissants. Well, Giroud for village idiot, of course.
