I think i've got shingles. Need to know if it's worth going to the doctors as it seems there's no cure.

Is that like rickets? Lack of sunlight, perhaps? Or vitamin C? Maybe that's scurvy.

Medecine is complicayed, isn't it?

It's related to chicken pox and herpes. That's basically all I know.

I know what it is. You need a few beers for lunch and a decent serving of fish and chips with mushy peas; plenty of salt & vinegar. Put you right as rain in no time.

My lymph nodes on one side of my neck (where the rash is) are all swollen and sore and it feels like i've got sunburn across one shoulder. Luckily the internet has learned me that it's not life threatening. My mum tried telling me that if left untreated the rash on one side could join up with a rash on the other side and kill you. This is not possible as it can only occur on one side of the body :hehe:

I understand it can be very painful and debilitating, though. :-(

I've had shingles. It hit the neck and face on one side, which went a bit elephant man-ish with an intermittant stabbing pain. I went to the doctor who gave me something and it cleared up, so I'd say yes, it is worth going.

Yeah, it's not nice. As i said it feels like bad sunburn so trying to sleep has been a pain in the arse.

I don't know why we bother asking him.
He never really gives any useful information.

he just says stop smoking and lose weight. that's all doctors ever day.

Chunky chips. Six chipolatas. Two fried eggs. Two bread and butters. Chips dipped into yolks. A splash of Worcestershire on the snorkers.

What do you think? :cloud9:

I'm impressed that you can identify your lymph nodes, I must say.

If you go to the doctor he'll probably sign you off work for three years on full pay, won't he?

Suppose i'll have to drag myself there. ****ing hate going to the doctor here as you see a nurse (they know nothing) and they only call a doctor in to see you if they can't find your symptoms on google.

Have you seen the McLaren has broken down yet again? :hehe: At what point to they go running to Ferrari or Mercedes and ask for an engine?

Did you make a chip butty? I really hope you did.

Do they finger your hole? They seem to be obsessed with fingering my hole these days. Keep sending me letters asking me to come in and have my hole fingered. :-(

I'm currently three weeks into a 5 month holiday (see parental leave) so that won't make no difference, although you joke but my girlfriends friend was recently off work for almost a year because of "stress" issues. She just kept going back to the doctor every month to get signed off work for another 4 weeks :hehe: It's quite a big problem over here. There's been talk of clamping down on it.

Thinking on it, they have a thing called vård av barn where a parent can take time off work (80% pay) and look after the child if the child is too sick to be at school or his current carer is sick. Maybe my girlfriend can get some time off :rubchin:

I used two thirds of each slice to carry the eggs, then used the remaining two thirds to make a small chip butty which I ate first as a sort of amuse bouche. There was ketchup and a splash of malt vinegar in this butty.

Next year, I expect. Painful to see the team this bad for so long. Shame they didn't get rid of Ron Dennis about five years ago.

Fine, fine work. I applaud you.

I was reading in The Guardian about something called a 'Pie Barm' they have in Wigan. It's a neat and potato pie in a buttered, soft white roll.

I'd love to say I wasn't excited by the idea, but I'd be lying.

I was interested to read that as well, but I have concerns.

Imagine if the pastry was just a teeny-weeny bit too thick and the gravy just a smidgeon lacking. You'd instantly have a dry, inedible lump of matter. The disappointment would be scarring.

I think sauce is the answer. Brown or red. Also the butter would help.

I'd almost be tempted to go to Wigan. Almost.

They'll sign you off for practically anything here at the doctors.Runny nose - stay at home for a week. But god forbid you take time off for anything else. Friend of mine took four days off last week to fly back to Ireland for her grandmother's funeral. Her work gave her a verbal warning

It can be quite serious if left untreated.

I actually know for a fact that when doctors are discussing the condition, they cover their mouths with their hands like pensioners do when using a mobile phone, and refer to it as "the semi bad aids".

Think BGM should post a picture of his rash and we'll decide whether he should just give up and start carrying a bell and shouting 'Unclean!'

Indeed. Here's what the French have to say about it: Le zona est une dermatose virale fréquente, due au virus de l'herpes zoster, le même virus que la varicelle. L'adjectif s'y rapportant est zostérien.

Basically, BGM is finnish.

Look, like it or not, a gentleman of your age is more prone to certain ailments than others. They have your best interests at heart. By all means turn down their advice, but don't come crying to the NHS when you get poorly.
