An important link between Breakfast and Dinner, I'd say.

I would have thought you and your lady had supper, not dinner.

All terribly confusing of course.

I have no firm rules on the matter, except, of course, that 'dinner' is never served at lunchtime.

Unless you can spend 2-3 hours doing it over several bottles of wine, it's really not worth it.

What about school dinners. It is never school lunches, but one brings in a packed lunch. It's a mess really.

Well today it will b slightly disappointing as my local's guest bitter is Spitfire, which is a bit meh.

Still, two pints of any kind plus a bacon and avocado sarni is not to be sniffed at.

Avocado is good for you.

So are apples - I wouldn't put one in a bacon sandwich though. He'll be having star anise next

I once had a very boozy lunch at a Thai, somewhere near Battersea I think.
Anyhow, the food went down very well, accompanied by more than a few bottles. We continued to while away a few hours until it occurred to someone within out party that it may be a good idea to re-order for dinner.
I think we eventually crawled out of the place at around eightish rather worse for wear.
Two meals in the same place, not something I've gone on to repeat.

I see the Germans have infested you with their incomparably dull, one dimensional, boring food.

Granary bread, mayo, avocado and crispy bacon = a sublimely good sandwich.

Spitfire was just meh, as was expected. But given that the alternatives were Doombar and Youngs Bitter, I suppose I should be happy with my lot.

That's true.. One can't help admiring those carefully laid out rows of brotchen within the glass cabinets but their contents are pretty standard fare.

Err... Tottenham!

"Oh I never felt more like redacted the redacted
When Arsenal win
And Tottenham lose
Oh Arsenal!
You got me redacted the redacted"

You never hear that one any more, do you?

Both Doom Bar and Young's Ordinary are superior to Spitfire, which is little better than pīss.

Young's Ordinary is, in fact, a superbly-flavoured golden ale.

Indeed not. I think the sly hissing noise at WHL is long overdue a comeback. We'll tell them (the Police) that it's post Trumpist irony.

When did such songs actually disappear, though? I can't remember them being sung since the vandals destroyed the real North Bank and built that monstrosity with seats. Can it really be 25 years? There must eb a generation of fans who never heard the good old tunes.

"Who's that lying on the runway?
Who's that dying in the snow
It's Matt Busby and his boys
And they're making all the noise
'Cos they couldn't get their aeroplane to go!"

And, of course, the refrain:

"Too many lived
And not enough died
In the Munich air disaster!"

And when I tell the kids about,

"Twelve went up and seven died
Man U now play five-a-side
With a nick nack, paddy-wack
Busby was a cvnt
Shame he weren't sat near the front"

they simply do not believe such visceral loathing could be encapsulated in song

:hehe: I was told once about a ditty that included the line, "They found Duncan Edwards but not his fúcking head", but sadly never heard it.

Not sure if it is Young's Ordinary or not, but when I've had it I have found it too bland and acidic to enjoy. Doombar is just vile. A bitter that gives bitter a bad name. I'd rather have a pint of a Fosters.

Doom Bar is indeed superior to Spitfire but to describe Spitfire as 'piss' is beer snobbery gone mad. Anyway, we did this the other week, and especially when Spitfire is one the more affordable bottles from the shop it is very acceptable to drink at home.
