View Full Version : Oxlade-Chamberlain, or 'Chambo', as I like to call him.

Too good to be a bit part player at a top 4 club, but not good enough to be a first team regular at such a club?

Would he be better off going to Everton or Southampton or similar where he'd be the star of the show?

Perhaps he can make the midfield position his own? He's definitely behind many a player for our wide positions, but if he can be a bit more consistent with his passing i think he could be a very decent midfield option.

I think 'Chambo' is somewhat problematic. :-( It sounds a bit too much like something BFR would call him.

I think he has great quality, and if we assume poor Santi is finished, there is a vacancy there. Does Chambo have enough great quality, though?

May I ask if this is perhaps a small knee jerk reaction to a decent performance on Saturday against a Southampton reserve team?

He has acquitted himself well before in midfield of course but as a whole he is extremely erratic in quality of performance, more often very frustratingly annoying than brilliant. I had huge hopes for the lad only 18 months ago, thought last season was going to be his, but it was not.

I do agree that he is perhaps more fitting of that level hovering just below the elite.

:nono: It is how he is referred to by his colleagues. Have you not seen the wee videos of him and 'Jenks' engaging in what I believe is termed, 'epic bantz'? They are really very, very charming. Indeed 'Chambo' presents himself as not only witty, but genuinely intelligent and charismatic.

I think 'knee jerk' is uncalled for. Saturday was another example of how good he can be, not the first or second.

Of course I haven't seen it! What sort of deviant watches that sort of nonsense?

Oh, I see. I am a deviant, am I? Straight to the insults. An interesting conversational gambit. One expects such barbarity from our Irish contingent, but hopes for better from an Englishman.

Perhaps if your mind were more open to experiences beyond your narrow, bourgeois, prescribed range of sensory stimulation you would be a batter, more rounded human being.

On that note I shall take my deviancy and bid you farewell.

Fair enough, knee jerk was not meant in any way incendiary.

However to go back to your point, at a club of our stature and our ambition each season, what he “can be” has to really be the norm as opposed to the exception once in a blue moon which sadly for AOC is the case.

We are not miles apart here, as I said I had extraordinary high hopes for the lad as you appear to harbour now, I’m just not sure it is going to happen certainly in his current bit-part role you refer to.

Re-invention as a midfield player has often been mooted as people jumped onto the bandwagon created by an AW comment a few years back, could happen of course but is he really going to surpass the other specialists we have in that very congested area. I would suggest no.

I am neither convinced that he warrants one of the two positions to supplement Ozil and Sanchez. So there you have the issue.

Everton / Southampton / as you suggest.

Clearly you're overwrought. I blame Donald Trump and the ongoing rise of Nazism.

There's nothing wrong with it, imo; it's delicious. If you ever find yourself down Nyasaland-way you really ought to try it

You could apply that to far too many of our squad, I'm afraid. See also Ramsey, Elneny, Coquelin, Welbeck, Giroud etc

I am wondering if the left can keep up this level of outrage for the whole four years or whether they're going to calm down at some point. Trump does actually seem to have driven them mad, so it's possible.

Do you know that BA no no direct flights any more to Lusaka, Dar, Nairobi, Harare, Kampala or Lilongwe? Our national carrier has removed a whole swathe of Africa from its route map.

Apart from this being an obviously racist act, it also condemns me to fly Kenya Airways :-(

I am considering burning my BA gold card in protest.

I think my badly worded post really meant that while we have lots of players of that level of ability, we seem unable to challenge for the league possibly because we don't have enough truly first 11 players. Kos, Ozil and Sanchez only?

Actually business class on their new 787s is comfortable enough, with a full flat bed seat; but the food... let's just say that it isn't of business class quality. And they had no ugali.

Do they all still do the whole Mumbo-Jumbo deal, where the actual aircraft are really owned by BA and they just change the livery?
