RIP. Aside from the football, he was a decent cricket man too.

Shame. The Sun was pretty despicable towards him. I suppose you can delete "towards him" from that.
RIP an utter legend
for this sort of thing

On the one hand, he does seem to have been rather a decent sort of a chap and I suppose that at the end of the day that's more important than his odd conviction that Geoff Thomas was an international-standard footballer.

yes Boss!
..
I can only assume that, now GT has passed, Phil is still faithfully mimicking his every move and is now lying very still in a wooden box.

Carlton Palmer played for England 18 times under GT.
And he dropped Martin Keown for Tony ****ing Dorigo.
Had his managerial flaws but a top man.

Dorigo was a LB though, maybe needed cover and we had plenty at CB......I can't remember

I think it's fair to say that the fact that all the kind words are about what a nice chap he was and not what a great football manager he was tells its own story.

He was very good at Watford, maybe the England job was a step too far?

The England job is a step too far for most managers, tbf. There have been what, three decent ones since Sir Alf - out of goodness knows how many?

He was exceptional for Watford.... who knows what would have happened if the Ref had sent off RK

Who are the three? Just asking ..

True, although you could argue that stumbling upon the most talented British player of that generation was a fairly major factor in his success at Watford.

I'm assuming Robson and Venables, but fück knows who the third one is.

Sven.
Hoddle wasn't too bad tbf. Apart from not picking Arsenal players. And being mental.

Taylor even gave him his professional debut, I think. Scored about 100 goals for them too.

Sven was good only in the sense that he had realistically limited goals for the England team - namely qualifying to tournaments and getting to the knockout stages. He appeared to regard anything beyond that as not really being part of his remit.

Rightly so. Back in vem days we could expect to get to a quarter final. Dizzy heights.
Obviously one might say similar things about Arsene.

I deliberately didn't draw that parallel for fear of who it might get started, a! :-(
