I'm just mildly bemused about who gets to decide what is 'conventional'.

Well obviously the thing is nonsense. Parliamentarians debating the conventionality or otherwise of sexual acts is ridiculous, since there is no baseline for how widespread an activity has to be in order to be considered 'conventional'. Are there going to be pie charts? Bar graphs? The debate promises to be highly amusing, if nothing else.

No, my complaint is about the fact that every sexual peccadillo now feels it should be able to represent itself without any coyness - let alone shame. I am of the opinion that if you are into certain things, then by all means enjoy them behind closed doors with consenting adults, but you still ought to be damn well ashamed of yourself about it.

I was at a conference on data this morning in some trendy 'workspace' in Spitalfields, and one of the speakers told of a party they threw where all drinks had to be purchased with tokens earned by answering a large number of highly personal questions, including those of a sexual nature. ISTR an example where about 45% said they liked spanking their partner during sex.
