I've played with the idea a few times when shaving my beard but only then to shave the whole thing off.

rather than looking cool I look more like david brent.

Machiavelli was clean shaven, so probbers Mephistopheles. My beard would probably be full Old Testament Prophet/Ronnie Drew/Roy Keane these days. Worth consideration.

No, I figure that just as soon as my missus stops caring what I look like (which can't be long, surely? We've been married two years, ffs!), I'll go full beard.
