are not up for negotiation, we must still reach out to those people who are now attracted to right-wing populist parties or causes, because on issues like inequality of wealth, there is a clear case to answer."

Translation: "We're going to double down on identity politics while pushing a socialist economic agenda"

Yep, that'll do the job. Introspection truly is an alien concept to these cu*ts, isn't it.

How many Welshers give a fúck about racism and sexism? They've barely reached 1950 in Swansea.

Oh, the heads are firmly in the sand. No-one wants to face up to the fact that electorates across the western world are rejecting the cosy political/media/judiciary consensus on identity politics and that the old order changeth. The first competent mainstream politicians to really grasp what's going on are going to clean up.

They are a bunch of semi-evolved, hymn-singing troglodytes whose one saving grace is that their women go like the clappers.

How's that for racism and sexism?

Next up, the malicious Jockodwarf promises to block Trump's inauguration because the Scottish people didn't vote for him.

But doesn't that contradict your belief that the culture war is a lost cause, since the left dominate all spheres of society and new generations are indoctrinated into their belief system?

My favourite was yesterday when the ventriloquist's dummy who masquerades as the LibDem leader was attacking the PM for not condemning the man who was potentially about to become the leader of our most important overseas ally. This from the sort of person who doubtless worries about Trump's lack of diplomatic skills. :hehe:

That's a good point, actually. I tend to agree with b that the brainwashing appears to have gone so far as to be irreversible, but the evidence of Brexit and Trump suggests that we, too, live within our own echo chamber amongst educated liberals, and failed to notice that the majority of the population, hoi uneducated polloi, do not.

Perhaps Winston Smith was right. If there is hope, it lies with the proles.

I'm not sure I said they're lost, but there's still a long way to go, given that the education system, the courts, politics, media (not least our state broadcaster), the CPS and police and various other institutions are still utterly controlled by these people.

Still, I must admit that these signs of seismic shift are more encouraging than I'd dared hope.

For sure. But the concern is that what we're seeing are the dying flames of protest against the liberal concencus (evidenceed by the majority of Brexiteeers being over 55) but once they're gone they'll be replaced by generation snowflake who will go onto breed future generations of snowflakes.

True enough, but we can also hope for the natural rightwards shift that comes with maturity.

Yes. What a delicious irony it would be if the very people the left has so abjectly failed to educate 'properly' (and thus are not indoctrinated with their absurd values) are the same ones who kick them in the arse.

It's almost enough to make a democrat of me again. :-D

They don't really breed though, do they. That's part of the trouble; immigrants are doing most of the breeding.

No, I think it's a recognition that there is a wide rejection of the elite, and if the left doesn't recognise this, and possibly its own responsibility for the situation, the right, and perhaps the very far right, will benefit, and quite possibly with demagogues, as we are seeing.

There is a gap between identity politics and outright chauvinism that is worth exploring imo.

You know where you are with good, old-fashioned chauvinism though :-(

I doubt this elite of yours mind too much, to be honest. Otherwise, what's the point of being elite.

There is indeed a gap between identity politics and outright chauvinism and it is a space inhabited by many people who Leanne Wood and her ilk flippantly write off as bigots. And if you think that's going to change because Trump has got in, you are Kolo Toure and I claim my five pounds.

To be honest, if they keep on making the same idiotic mistakes, they will keep getting their arses handed to them by the electorate and not understanding why.
Long may it continue imo,

They've minded Brexit rather a lot. So much that many of them seem to want to do away with the voters altogether.

Oh, that's just banter. Their eliteness (money, education and so on) means they're perfectly well-sheltered from the whims of mere voters already.

It's like parents' complaints about school fees; they are fully intended as a veiled boast about how much money they make.

Complicated business. Complicated. As the man said.
