Would do well to head to the Lyric Hammersmith to watch the revival of "Shopping and F ucking".

There is no place for obscenity at the theatre, m.

Lord no. I will attend nothing written after 1950.

I don't hold with modern 'literature' or 'art' of any description.

And don't get me started on Stalin apologists like Stoppard and Bennett.

If you are saying there is nothing of value written for the theatre after 1950 then you know nothing about the theatre. Which you wouldn't if you hadn't bothered to see anything written after 1950.

I congratulate you on your superior knowledge of the theatre, m.

Thank you, yes. But my pleasure would be greater if you'd go yourself a favour and be less dogmatic about something you obviously enjoy. Even if you don't like experimental stuff and so forth the idea that, say, Rattigan, only churned out sh it after 1950 is frankly very silly.

The bumfun does sound appealing, but I've never really *got* theatre. The opera, all day long.
