View Full Version : How many penalties has Alexis missed? I reckon that's his third. Has he ever scored

Him and Ozzy are both sh1t at pens. Should just lave it to Santi.

But what do people think of our current front 3? Better than one with Olly central, Alexis left and one of Rambo, Feo or Iwobi right?

Yes. He scored one as a schoolboy I think.

Personally I'd like someone who actually blasts the bal to take them.

It'll be a bit clunky at times, but he's going to score more than any of the others. Giroud has had four years. He's never going to get 25-30 league goals. The penalty situation is silly though. It's Santi's job all day long.

Scored in the copa America final shootout two years on the run. Don't know why Santi didn't just take it though.

It's not just about scoring goals. If you move Alexis to centre-forward you miss his tracking back on the right and his cutting in from the left. He will score as many goals on the left as he will in the middle

I'm happy to keep this Alexis experiment going for a while longer. At least I don't know for certain it won't work. Anything has to be better than giving Giroud another season.

That's my fear. The Per and Gabby injuries meant we had to spend £40m on a CH. Had Kos been fit from the start and/or Gabby not injured, I'd have been happy with Holding as 4th choice and Chambers as 5th.

But moving Alexis central means we either needed a decent striker or goal scoring/creating winger. Instead of Perez and Mustafi, I'd rather have spent the £60m on one of those. Pay for Mkhitaryan or Mahrez or that Abumyang chap (however he's spelled.)

That would have improved the starting XI. Instead, he's bought 2 MFs since Jan (El-neny and Granit) who seem to both be behind Coq in the pecking order. So we've spent close to £100m and all we seem to have done is given ourselves some extra cover at CH.

And given Holding cost just £2 mil, Callum seems to have been a pricey signing.

The only striker you've got there is Aubemwotsit, the others are midfielders. He didn't want to come. The others in that league would have been Higuain, Benzema, Cavani (ahem!) and little else. And there isn't really a suggestion any of them were that keen on us.

I think that's why he went for Vardy.

If he wasn't such a despicable human being a cheeky bid for Costa might have succeeded.

Is there really no 15-20 goal a season winger we could have got for £50m?

Yes. Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott!

Hopefully Iwobi, too. He wasn't that successful vs PSG, but he had a hand in two goals today.

Hi backheel to Feo was perfect and had another shot really well saved, which Ozzy should have scored following up. Feo scored one, helped with two and crossed for the penalty.

btw was it Coq who had the shot which was handballed? If so, that's so unfair. He deserves a goal for us.

The team selection was wrong against PDG. Funnily enough today, when we were two goals up against ten men, we ended up with three holding midfielders on the pitch! Which is what we should have done at PSG.

Iwobi needs to work harder in defence when we lose possession. He was bordering on excellent today though. It was Coq, how frustrating. Should have taken the penalty.

Santi should take all penalties. If Olly is on the pitch, he should be 2nd choice. Alexis has stuttered and missed every time for us. Dunno why - he's great at everything else. So I can live with his one weakness being penalty taking. Like Ozzy.

I do hope Iwobi keeps improving. He could be great for us. He's got far more end product than Ox.

With Feo recapturing some of his sparkle, I quite like our front 3 now. (Front 4 if we include Ozzy.)

And if Granit can learn to play the Coq role, we could have a decent team shaping up. 2 great FBs, Cech, and 4 decent CHs + Holding.

Olly from the bench. Though we don't have any to bring on when we need goals other than him. Yes, Rambo. But with Joeal Campbell gone we only have the Ox as an option for an extra winger. {I'm a bit worried about Perez so far.} I would have kept Serge.

Maybe Jeff will come good. But I worry about Ox. He knows he's out of form, so when he gets a sub appearance, he's got extra pressure to produce. I think his career could soon be over for us. Iwobi's taken his place, and if Olly plays up front, Feo, Iwobi and Rambo are all ahead of him for the wide right spot.

Yes I was disappointed Perez didn't hit a hat-trick today. He did have five minutes and he blew it.

Don't forget Jeff Reine-Adelaide. If he isn;t wasted like we wasted Gnabry he could be massive. Better dribbler than anyone if the first team I think, and no weakling.

I'd like to see Jeff come good. But I'm still worried about letting Serge go. We always used to have loads of attacking wing options to bring on. But with Alexis playing central, and Campbell gone, we now only have Ox. (Though Welbz will be back eventually.)

I think AW should have kept Serge for 6 months to see if he offered more than Ox does atm.

I suppose Rambo can come on for any MF or wide position, and with the strikers we have, can go 4-4-2 if need be. (If they are aby good together.)

I do hope Perez comes good, but Ian Wright on his debut on MotD got me worried. Still, hopefully he'll get a goal soon and crack on.
