what you getting for Christmas.

What's that sound you ask?
It's the scrapping of the bottom of the barrel.

I might ask for a new amplifier.

Won like this. 265

They specialise in lower power outputs, don't they?

I need 80 watts, man. I'm old and half deaf.

Their signature series maybe.

There is plenty of additional kit out there to add to deafen you even more, old boy.

What sort of kit, i? Are you counselling a pre- and power amp set up? I'd be interested in any recommendations for such a system.

I would suggest, it depends on what sort of stuff you listen to and on what sort of kit (ie vinyl?) that dictates your set up.

Get yourself down to your local hi-fi independent. They'll happily relieve you of a few grand.

Oh yes, I'll be off auditioning at Sevenoaks HiFi. I was just interested in your view. :vsign:

Pre-amp if using vinyl. Don't do that much these days, tbh.

integrated amp, DAC, quality CD player and some kind of digital interconnect for FLAC. 2 good speakers, stereo is all that is required, none of this surround sound nonsense. oh, and good headphones.

Have you tried the little Dragonfly DAC for playing stuff from your Mac/Laptop? Cool...

I use an Arcam Airdac at present.

is it any good?

I'm a little old fashioned, I'm not sure I would trust something without physical interconnects for my music . . .

It's excellent. I can't tell any difference in sound quality when playing through the Airdac or via a docking station, but I suppose when playing music off a phone the source quality is pretty **** anyway and nothing's going to improvce that... but for making the best of a bad job for the sake of convenience, it's (imo) the best solution out there.

What have you done with your vinyl?

It's in a box in the attic. I'm never going to be arsed with breaking that out again.

CDs are out and accessible, but to be honest 99% of the time I just use the phone :hide:

 Quite possibly too accessible, which is worrying.
