I'm attempting home made balls and gloop.

Oh, I do those all the time. They're a doddle. Self-raising flour, water, salt and I recommend a touch of garlic powder in the batter. The gloop is just ketchup, vinegar, sugar, pineapple juice and slaked cornflour boiled and stirred until gloop-like.
