I know he's a wengerite but this actually makes sense.

Yes. Additionally, the domestic TV monies are unlikely to be sustained indefinitely, so unless international TV deals rise to pick up the slack, the bubble will deflate, which could leave some clubs facing a revenue gap.

The article does make a lot of sense.

But the truth pf the matter is that what this means is that young promising players should be put on lower wages until they show something and not given expensive contracts when they are only going to feature, at most, in the league cup or they're going to be farmed out on loan. A smaller but more expensive senior squad is what is needed.

The time to have sold Campbell would have been after the last world cup when he put on a good show. On the same way as the time to sell Gnabry is now.

The point, though, is that because such assets are so hard to replace, the temptation is to hang on to them via loans in case they blossom into something more useful later. Though it does seem wierd that we can't risk money on new signings while we are paying players to play for other clubs. Now that's a #madness.

An asset isn't an asset if you can't use it. That's what happens when you get players who can't get work permits and it's also what happens when you farm them out on a one-year loan and can't get them back even if they aren't playing. We were probably paying for Gnabry to sit on WBA's bench last season.
