Arsene values Lacazette at less than Troy Deeney. The man really has no issue with making absurdly low offers, does he?

I'd like to think we'll actually improve on it and get him signed.

A relatively low opening bid is always a good tactic in negotiations. Unless they tell you to **** off and not come back.

Assume that they are just trying to get a bidding war going (why publish it otherwise).

But our track record of this sort of thing is very much 'if you don't like our first offer then go and get ****ed'.

Minor detail: is he actually any ****ing good?

Perhaps that's what he's worth to us.

Thing is.. Player prices are all over the shop. Gundogan went to City for 22m, which, several weeks on, now seems like an absolute steal.?
Incidentally, Our 38m for Granit, currently remains the second highest transfer fee this summer, behind Hulk to the Chinese super circus.

He's an expensive Sylvain Wiltord. All these strikers are wildly overpriced. You'd probably get better value and a similar number of goals, if you pinched Jermaine Defoe from Sunderland.

I quite like Jermaine Defoe, actually. I think a sneaky bid would be in order.

Aubameyang has said that the only club he would leave Dortmund for are Real Madrid.

Maybe we can go back and have another attempt at Icardi.

What I hope is that one of these days, from absolutely nowhere, we just announce Lewandowski.

I would sign for Arsenal in the meantime if the Real Madrid door is open. as if he's any good for us, Madrid or Barcelona will come calling.

Agree with you on the overpriced part. We were linked with Ben Yedder this morning. Plays for Tolouse, similar goalscoring record to Lacazette (has scored 62 league goals in the last 4 seasons), and will only cost £8m. Seems more like a Wenger signing imo. I'd much rather that sort of signing and sign someone like Mahrez than spunk £45m on a striker.

So did I. Wasn't his fault we played him as a right-winger to keep Tel happy.

Always reminds me of greg mitchell's views on lesbian porn, 'It's like Sylvain Wiltord, it goes round and round in circles and never gets anywhere.'

Much maligned (unfairly so) player was Sylvain. Did not have the outrageous skill or talents that some of his team mates did, nor did he have the cult status among fans that some of his other team mates did, but a very important player for his.

And of course he won the league at Old Trafford.

On a separate note Kanu is still in his 30's. albeit only for a few more days.

I wouldn't mind a good wide player coming in, and using Sanchez as a striker more often. If Xhaka,Santi,Coq and Elneny can offer a bit more than the Ramsey/Flamini CM (shudder). Maybe we can be a bit more flexible upfront? People were critical of Sanchez last year. But quite often he was dropping so deep just to get the ball, because our CM wasn't doing it's job.

Mahrez is the most obvious solution.. makes and scores goals, with the money we have left over we can get the defender I think we require... not sure we will get a forward of note the way the prices are going

You expect us to pay over 40m for Mahrez and then have money left over?

Yes, I think we would still have at least £30-£40m we could easily spend after that

But would you expect us to actually spend it?

So 30 on the Swiss and then 40 on Mahrez and then another 30-40. I believe the appropriate term is LOL.

Aaah, having it and spending it are 2 different answers... we SHOULD spend £40m or so on a wide player/fwd and in an ideal world we WOULD spend £30m or so on a defender.......

Right. That sort of outlay suggests desperation.

We finished as runner-up last term.
