£173m losses for Guardian Media Group, Scott Trust has a fair bit of cash but that's a huge loss

They've had the begging bowl out on the website for a while now. Not sure they're getting many takers.

Nah. The website's about the only bit that doesn't lose money hand over fist, so they'll likely keep that running.

It is always sad to see any venerable media institution go but the Guradian has had it coming with its loonier-than-loony editorial line for years and its selective defence of privilege by such as Polly Toynbee.

On the broader picture it shows there is little future for print media, beyond free property-porn paid-for papers, and an inability to make the net fill the gap.

Thank God. I was worried about Polly and the Boy Owen there, for a while.

God knows who'd keep publishing Jack Monroe's increasingly desperate pleas for attention if they shut The Guardian down. :-(

The display of solipsism this weekend was nothing short of remarkable.

Xe's a quite extraordinary egomaniac. Mind you, being worshipped by a national newspaper that unquestioningly laps up your every utterance would do that to anyone, I suppose.
